sweet corn, organic

sweet corn is nothing special to most of us... they have been so common in different cuisine...
n its nothing new to me as well...
btw corn would give me a strange corn poop... which is why I seldom have them...

yet this time got some organic ones to try...
so juz wanna have a taste test to find out how it's different from the conventional ones...

got chances to meet some organic corn from china and some produced locally...
kinda expect local ones will be fresher n better...
let's see...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
organic sweet corn,
china
@20190430
they are sold as 水果玉米...
literally means fruity corn...
these are likely some pre washed corn...
with one side of the corn skin peeled n the top is trimmed...
looks so promising that it even got a barcode for u to identify their products...

b4 cooking...
their outlook not so perfect.
maybe that's good as organic produce should be?

boiling in process...

1st one pulling out...
with some brown pieces looks like burning
kernels juz not grown well organized...
bite down really super juicy n sweet...
thinking would be good to eat raw too...
even the cob is soft enough to chew down...

2nd...
again with some brown kernels...
n juz not grown very organized ...
but this one with more mature hair...
bite down same juicy n sweet...
love this more mature one better...
can be able to pick out each kernel clean...
n the kernels are much 實在 much satisfying mouthfeel...
notice it got some kernels looks like water blobs...

3rd
likely to be a less mature one
looks young the kernels
again with brown kernels on top
but hair looks like mature n brown
turns out this one with small kernels are less 實在
more watery
cant pick kernels clean
thus hard to eat it clean
with a soft centre
less mature one is more watery less sweet to me

4th
mature hair
brown pieces
irregular organized
but can see that kernels are fully grown to the top
more mature  thus more 實在 more sweet
with some real tiny baby kernels so cute

5th
much mature hair
irregular organized
but with less browning on top
fully developed big fat kernels
a sweet one
yet many kernels with marks on
wonder how it developed

6th
much hair
quite much browning on top
fat n fully matured kernels
irregular organized
many water blobs cute
a very sweet one
especially given that it's been soaking in water for so long...

second round of boiling...

7th
irregular organized
but big fat kernels are super sweet n juicy

8th
even fatter the kernels
but always irregular organized
love to enjoy fat kernels one by one

the rest are nothing special lol...

overall they taste not much different than conventional sweet corn...
likely its juz a matter of clean eating...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
organic sweet corn,
local (hong kong)
@20190502
these are some locally grown corn ..
each with an individual identity label...
by scanning the barcode can have more details about their source of production...
the corn I've got are from two farms ...
wonder what's the meaning of that two types of farm...

b4 boiling...
some impurities... some bugs found...

boiling with their skin on...

1st
do have much hair
removing the skin left a small cob
looks like tender young kernels
soft cobs
each kernels are fully grown and packed densely together
very well organized
not so sweet
maybe it is too young?
a thin cob left

2nd
the smallest one chosen between the remaining
same hair lots of brown hair
and looks like a tender one
kernels grow all the way fully to the tip
same tender with some of the cob can be eaten
plus this one is sweeter
bigger fatter kernels means easier to it clean

*sth notice after two cobs...
*both two are less sweet n juicy than the china ones
*maybe juz not the super semisweet variety
*btw only after two is chow down notice they are all yellow kernels

3rd
with most intact part with stem
same with the dense hair
but with even fatter kernels
should be a more mature one
kernels fully to the top
irregular organized
fatter starchier kernels
but not any sweeter
juz got that corny flavour which is good

4th
notice two holes on skin
opening saw bugs still inside
real organic wtf...
same much brown hair on
this is so far the fattest kernels
all grown to the end
kinda sweeter
no matter the bugs targeted on it

5th
same amount of air
this one all fat chubby kernels all the way to the top
feels less sweet than the bugs one

by then preparing second round of cooking...
all abt bugs issue...
n one even with lots of ants...
didn't have this one...

6th
last one of first round cooking
brown hair
fat kernels
grown fully to the top
juz as the previous ones
one difference is that notice some grayish kernels
the taste of these grey ones are ok
but juz thinking better have them
sweetness is about the same

7th
kernels covered entirely the whole cob
n again some grayish kernels
others nothing special
this time sense that the grey kernels are a bit strange
maybe a bit savoury?
anyway juz not taste sweet
the same mild sweetnes for this cob
btw notice one white kernel on this one

8th
same deep dull colour kernels at the tip
juz another cute chubby kernels
but similar
not any sweeter

9th
this one should be from another farm
dunno if I mix them up lol
obviously different by the outlook
less well organized
not fully grown to the tip
more likely a bi colour one
bite down feel like sweeter
though not too much sweeter
the kernels are somehow more chewy 煙韌

10th
looks like the most hair on the outside
more fat n chubby kernels
kernels more mature more tough
a bit less sweet
notice bugs trapped n died within
give up halfway

11th
least fully grown
but with juicy young tender kernels
visible water blobs
should be the sweetest one so far...
also notice bugs died on kernels omg...

hk organic corn maybe fresher...
so organic that comes with lots of bugs...
but taste not sweeter than china organic ones...

n think these hk organic corn juz taste no better than conventional sweet corn...

juz dun think will have them again...

melon (galia melon)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- galia melon @20190404 three melons all got rotten spots...  sign of rot on the stem end...  and at the bottom... the blackened part has become soft and spongy...  opening look... out of my expectation... thought galia melon is with green flesh, as suggested on the web...   seeds removed... no rotting inside the flesh... that was not juicy when cut...   the seeds inside are sweet... but are scary to me coz my mouth would react badly, burning n bleeding... some kind of melon allergy...  spongy flesh towards the one end...  next the second melon...   the second one is paler... and the bottom end got serious moldy rot...  the spongy flesh towards one end...  cut out showing how deep it was infected... some of the flesh become translucent... n that rotting smell is obvious...  the rotten sp...
