first time having them in this whole grain form
only used to taste it in buckwheat noodles
so never know the true flavour








finally today have a try...
the shape is one of the uniqueness of this seed...
n this is a point that its attractive to me...
the cute pyramid shape kinda captured my heart...

its juz late n no time for meal...
try to stick with a pack of buckwheat n finish it...







opening up the pouch smells grassy n flowery...
a bit reminds me of the quinoa seed...
the raw smell of seeds maybe?










give it a rinse..
bubbles appear...
black seeds n some look-like-rot seeds float up...








pop into boiling water simmer for abt 15 mins...
maybe more actually coz including b4 n after time...
also the soaking time when rinsing...

the seeds on high heat dancing around...










then sitting for some time a gel formed on top...
btw notice the water absorption ability after boiling is similar to quinoa...










skim away the gel though know that its edible...








after boiling smell is earthy n nutty...
a bit like beans...
taste is a bit like beans as well... same starchy feel...



maybe I cooked it too long that they are broken up...
without any chewy n crunchy...
juz starchy n mushy...
juz not what I expected...







even for the most intact piece seen is mushy...
think it's like super fine rice porridge...









a black rock hard seed found...







another black seed found... only after biting into some pebbles like thing that I found it...









juz cant got a real tasting of these kernels ...
should be cooking less for these seeds next time...
before the seeds turn into mushy thing n stick on the pot...
btw thinking its texture should resemble coix seed...

these seeds with a bit grassy tone is so filling...
also less flavorful than beans...
even plainer than rice... wont keep me munching on it...

 somehow this batch looks less green, more tan











 opening up smells less grassy...










 same rinsing process... with lots of bubbles formed...












 this time notice the rinsing water is a bit red...












 boiling in process...
this time set on heat for abt 10 mins... aiming not to overcook it...











notice the water absorbing ability is significant... more buckwheat rises above water surface juz in 15 mins...











same with that gel formed on surface... juz skim it away...










cooked buckwheat groats in a spoonful...
looks same broken n puffed up like first time...
though did cut down the boiling time...
sorry that not checking it in the middle or else could further reduce the time...
seems like the softness n the smell got no difference with the first batch...









yet the texture is a bit firmer... with a bit of chew remains...
can see some kernels more intact...
as of the taste... its juz similar plain n starchy...
juz that the grassy tone tend to be more obvious... like this refreshing feel of buckwheats...











while another spoonful full of kernels opened up like flowers...









lol a split open kernel looks like banana peel...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- galia melon @20190404 three melons all got rotten spots...  sign of rot on the stem end...  and at the bottom... the blackened part has become soft and spongy...  opening look... out of my expectation... thought galia melon is with green flesh, as suggested on the web...   seeds removed... no rotting inside the flesh... that was not juicy when cut...   the seeds inside are sweet... but are scary to me coz my mouth would react badly, burning n bleeding... some kind of melon allergy...  spongy flesh towards the one end...  next the second melon...   the second one is paler... and the bottom end got serious moldy rot...  the spongy flesh towards one end...  cut out showing how deep it was infected... some of the flesh become translucent... n that rotting smell is obvious...  the rotten sp...
