this round of mangoes are very rot...
no much to say as it's not a fair judgement...

these Thailand green mangoes makes me think of the Vietnam green mangoes b4...
to my best memory, the two look alike n taste alike too...

1st...

2nd...

3rd...

4th...

green mango
@2019 apr12

again this batch of mangoes is a bit rotten...
but even before they're ripen, the odor produced is very intense... it smells very strong ly pungent that every corner of the room can sense it...
ripen ones will got a bit oily on the skin...
also they will become light green in colour...

its a sweet n very juicy variety...
golden yellow flesh is smooth...
green skin makes it  hard to notice bruises...
likely a rather quick rotten one...

compared to the Vietnam green mangoes I've tried, it's more or less the same...
after two round of tasting I think they juz make no difference...

the first one...

the second...

the third...

the fourth...

the fifth...

being the king of mango, they have an elegant n sexy mango shape.
most of them are less than a pound... around 300g each...
each of them are delicate. that's why every piece would have a little bruises...

the first one...
it's got that wrinkled skin towards the stem end... winder why...

a closer look at the wrinkles

opening revealing the flesh is still good... only that the part near the stem seems a bit dry...  also on one side the bruise is obvious...

the flesh is still golden yellow and super creamy...

the remaining seed... it's a relatively good piece...

the second n third one...
the one on the left has a deeper curve... have the slimmer one first...

strange that it's got rot into the seed... but there is no sign at the stem or on the skin...

except the seed gone black... the flesh near the seed becomes pale yellow... the flesh towards the seed will be more sour... yet the outer part of flesh is as good as usual...

the rot goes throughout the whole piece... juz wonder how it developed in the first place...

the third one ... also has a bit rot from the stem end... but is less serious than the second one...

the fourth one...
the left one is this forth one I had... will be a meaty one... its fatter as compared to the other one...

the rot is quite big near the stem... n much bruise on it as well...

opening revealed the black circular rot has not developed that deep... n lucky it's not become a stem end rot...

remaining seed...

the fifth one...
the right one is the fifth one to have... it's obviously larger than most of others... the label as a reference showing the weight n thus its jumbo size...

however this is a piece with quite a serious bruise coz I'm not taking good care of it... omg...
thus gotta have it asap as I noticed...

also some scars developed on the skin... making it less than a perfect piece...

bruises not affecting the flesh much yet... and the scar has not developed to be a deep one...

bite away those bruised part still lots of good sweet juicy creamy flesh... yum yum...

the bruise on the pointed tip end wasted some flesh... but lucky has not affected the seed yet...

the remaining seed... still a relatively good piece... as always bruises are better then stem end rot...

nam dok mai is surely the king of mango.
it's the best mango in my preference.
this time it doesnt not disappointing me too...

got that amazing fruit punch flavour...
a bit like a mix of pineapple n banana and maybe with a hint of flower blossom...
juz cant describe it in words...
the flavour is complex, exciting, tempting...

inside it's a golden yellow snd very smooth n creamy flesh...
like eating ice cream
the taste is wonderful
its sweet but with a flowery scent
never overly sweet ...
perfect flavour created by the nature..

nam dok mai
@2019 apr14

the 1st one...
by comparing the skin colour judge it's a less ripe one
yet it's got that 甜點 black dots on skin
it does smell a bit rot maybe I didn't let it breathe...
the flowery tone is very intense once picking out the stem..
as with all other mangoes fibres n flesh are firmer with an less ripe one
yet I love that more obvious flowery tangy taste...
it will have a fresher aftertaste
the flesh is paler n more sour towards the core
it ripens from the outside in...

 the 2nd...
sorry... the colour is hard to capture...
but it s a really ripe one that it's got a very golden yellow coloured flesh
though there are some bruises and a bit stem end rot...
the bruised part becomes harden are detach easily itself
n it's a super sugary sweet one
think its overripe
still prefer those with obvious flowery tone
it juz lack of it

the 3rd...
3rd
a slim one
but looks very ripe
also a bit bruises
also got black sweet spot
surprised that it got really rot
probably start at the stem end
sour pale yellow inner flesh
growmore serious on one side

the 4th...
4th
those round spots didn't grow deep
is a perfectly ripe one...
all golden creamy flesh
entirely perfect golden throughout...
...forgot seed pic...

the 5th...
5th
lots of bruises mark
tastes a bit off
not sour but not sweet   as well

never affected deep into the seed
but the flesh taste strange
somehow the flesh is pale yellow near the seed
juz not all yellow

the 6th...
6th
got some sweet juice from the stem that dried up n formed a crystal
expected it to be a good sweet one
its ripe yet very bruised as well
again some seed rot that start from nowhere...
likely since on the tree
outer flesh still taste fine
but not a perfect one
much flesh is wasted

jade mango
@2019 apr17

these jade mango are all rotten... some start to rot though the body is still green... wonder if the problem is improper temperature? or it's some form of 催熟 treatment...
anyways it would be unfair to judge this variety given that they are rotten...
juz mark down some points that impressed me most...

colour comparison... from greener on the left to a more yellow one on the right...

three pieces that are less green n less rot... juz better ones this time...

1st
very soft to slide thru with knife
cutting feel a large seed but the truth is not
not a very sweet one
mostly rotten on the stem end
normal colour on the other end
super soft and juicy
juz do like that not firm flesh... maybe its jelly-like softness is bcuz of bruises n rots...
but like it mild sweet n juicy

2nd
as with the 1st one it's got really thin and soft skin
this feel very bruised very soft
outer part of flesh is of jelly consistency
inner part of flesh is with strong fibres
it's really a very rot one but still eaten much flesh

3rd
a really rot one
try my best to eat some flesh
this time under the skin is firmer drier flesh
coz hard fibre
the pale yellow tells everything
it's a sour one
strange n real rot

4th
different kind of rot by the outlook
affected abt one third of flesh
slide the knife thru feeling finally a right texture
the colour of flesh is more normal golden yellow
taste better less sour less off

5th, 6th, 7th...
the rest of them are better...
not only by the outlook that they are less green
n that they are less rotten
also the smell is less rot
the flesh is not that rotten mushy... golden yellow in colour...
though rotting still wasted quite much flesh...

5th
the stem got a mould or some ripening chemicals? ?
rot is not that serious
most flesh are golden yellow, sweet n juicy...

6th
again it's a less rot piece
most flesh are good to eat

7th
the final one without any sign of rot
entire piece can be enjoyed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
china
jade mango
@2019 apr18

the right most one is the greenest... while the left most one is a rotten one...

from left... the largest one, the tiny one, n two greener ones...

1st
a quite rot piece...
this kind of mango rot somehow got a clear cut...
it's really rot with most flesh wasted...
but unaffected flesh taste ripe n sweet...

2nd
surely an unripe one...
light yellow flesh... not sweet but not so sour...
a bit like having a lemonade...
not very juicy...
got two-tone colour flesh...
flesh towards the seed is lighter in colour...

3rd
another quite green one
more ripe one
sweeter n more juicy
more golden yellow
the texture is the same softness

4th
a piece that still got some green hint on
love this one got an interesting curvy shape
removing the skin juz see that golden yellow
know it's a ripe one
cant tell by the colour of skin
golden yellow down to the seed
sweet n juicy one
with a little bit eggy taste at some bites
dunno if that the smell of overripe or the ripening agent, juz the mango stinky I used to got at desert shop

5th
this one with less green hint...
but knife sliding thru feel like its unripe...
colour more pale yellow ...
skin is more firm...
smell n taste both less sweet...
though a bit sour its still juicy...

6th
the smallest one
when sliding knife thru juice juz falls out
know that it's a ripe one
removing the skin revealed its golden yellow colour
however, dunno why skin are still firm and strongly attached
very ripe very sweet

7th
looks like with a burnt mark... but that's fine with the flesh...
an orange yellow one...
smells a bit rot...
probably overripe...
the sweetness is a bit too intense too much...
loses that 清香 balance...

8th
a final jumbo piece...
likely a ripe one...
n its another orange yellow one...
a bit overripe to me...

R2E2 mango
@2019 apr19
four mangoes are with signs of rot...
smells a bit sour a bit off...

to my knowledge r2e2 mangoes are something belong to Australia...
wanna compare the differences between this r2e2 mangoes and the Australia r2e2 mangoes...

first some pics of these rot ones...

like that cute curve of those chubby round mangoes...
like a cashew?
they're pretty rot...
coz lazy didn't leave air for them to breathe...
n the nectar on the surface left unclean making it vulnerable...

good that a firm flesh is quite tolerant to rotting...
those with less stem attached are more easily rotten...
remember... never let it stored in moist place n not to leave it in plastic wrap or they'll suffocate...

as it's a firm-fleshed one, rot doesnt affect much flesh..
however they re juz not that good sweet...
a bit more sour than I think...
one of them even taste bitter like medicine...
its a firmer but not a cream kind of mango...
the colour of skin is not a good indicator of ripeness...
green coloured skin could be soft n ripe...
red blushes likely not a dependent factor also...

remaining seeds with some flesh still on...
the more orange yellow one is a bit medicine like... but with no visible sign of rot...

it's been months I didn't have r2e2 mangoes from australia...
but as far as I could remember, these Vietnam r2e2 are very similar to australia r2e2...
both have a firm flesh... a golden yellow colour...
however since these batch are rotten, the taste could not be compared...
leave it for next round...

R2E2 mango
@2019 apr20

though all with some rot... they are juz mild...
the top two are more ripe... while the bottom three got a bit sour smelling...
n the glossy green outlook is sign of being unripe...

1st
this one with a beautiful red-yellow-green skin...
also some rot caused by the nectar left on skin...
its an unripe one... never have had a r2e2 that unripe...
probably pick too early...
real sour...
hard to finish the flesh stuck on seed...

2nd
mould does affect deeper than I expect...
but it s a ripe one
knife easily slide thru
flesh are softer n sweeter
*softness is the main thing
*colour may not be important
*the smell is the no1 thing
it's still a two tone one
half unripe

3rd
smell is no1 thing so I smell it... smell not sweet...
a bit of rot... n quite large area of bruises...
also with a mark like growing a scar...
that's a 下陷 on skin ...
opening the fruit orange yellow under the skin...
n sweet soft flesh beneath the skin ...
likely a much ripe one...
but still s bit of two tone noticed...
still taste a bit of citrus tangy...

4th
skin with some sunburn-like mark...
it's a totally yellow colour skin...
opening up real juicy...
very deep orange yellow flesh...
flesh on skin tastea really sweet...
skin is very thin n stick to the flesh...
sweet throughout but not the last bite at the seed...
btw the sweetness is not something I remember of australia ones...

left the 5th one unfinished... leave for next time...

overall, thinking r2e2 from Australia is better...
juz never eaten a r2e2 from australia that's so unripe n sour...
these from Vietnam maybe picked too early...
somehow they're poor developed...

remember having r2e2 from australia it's always sweet n ripe enough even for green-skin ones...
I would never got any itchy skin reaction for australia r2e2... even if some were a bit tangy...
however these r2e2 from Vietnam causes itchy and chapped skin...

maybe r2e2 juz belongs to Australia...
n think that australia produce are of higher standard...

R2E2 mango
@2019 apr21
this round of r2e2 looks pretty good on the skin... but as the last two experiences told me... juz dun expect much from it...
very likely under that red n green vibrant flesh will be some unpleasant tasting flesh...

1st...
sour like citrus...
n got some rot on seed...
try my best to have most of the flesh...

2nd
still some green on skin...
suspect maybe sour...
lucky turns out it a ripe enough piece...
flesh consistently orange yellow till the seed...
and no rot on seed...
a good piece...

3rd
though still some green
knife sliding thru opening up feel its soft...
n already smell sweet...
this is so far a sweet one at the skin side...
but lemony towards the seed...
rot doesnt affected much deep...
however likely some stem end rot affected the fibre strands...
got a rot on seed... hard to spot as one would bite up without noticing...

4th
only a bit green left...
but with a spot of rot...
knife down feel soft...
opening smell ok sweet...
flesh orange yellow throughout...
but not so sweet juz ok...
maybe the stem-end rot does affect a bit...

5th
a bit green on skin...
a big rot...
smell the sweetest...
with black little dots 甜點...
knife down very soft...
surprised that the rot doesn't affect that much...
its orange yellow n sweet throughout...

R2E2 mango
@2019 apr22
last batch of r2e2 this month...
4 pieces of them...
juz not to expect too much...

1st...
sour n unripe...
cant be ripe properly anyway b4 it rots through...

2nd
still some green hint...
a bit scary to me... maybe sour...
opening up is a more orange yellow one...
but dunno will it have two-tone flesh...
the nectar rot didn't affect much...
flesh on the skin is sweet enough...
turns out to be a good ripe piece...
orange yellow throughout ...
without that sourness that hurts my mouth...

3rd...
a piece with much stem attached...
the stem still green...
but hope that it will be a ripe one...
smells ok sweet...
but feels harder than the 2nd one...
I'd say lucky... omg...
it's a ripe n sweet one...
all flesh is consistently orange yellow...
n rots do not affect the flesh...

4th
though an orange yellow one...
taste not so sweet...
actually it's a bit strange...
somehow taste medicine like...
only try to finish most...

think australia r2e2 has got something special abt them...
maybe quality...
maybe the originality...
the australia r2e2 would not have irritated substances that hurt my mouth...
n they will be less likely to be rotten b4 it is all ripe...
maybe r2e2 mangoes juz cant survive well in other places...

likely that the probability of getting some poor pieces is smaller for australia r2e2...
